Kimberly Kennard is a Knoxville based watercolor artist whose work is inspired by the diverse landscapes of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. With a background in ecology and science education, she discovered a passion for watercolor later in life. As a self-taught artist, she seeks to deepen her ability to observe and appreciate the natural world by painting outdoors, en plein air. In 2024, Kimberly won Best of Show for the Open Division of the Plein Air Smokies Quick Draw, securing her spot as a featured artist in 2025. She is currently inspired by the way sunlight filters through the lush and ancient layers of the Blue Ridge mountains during the golden hours. Whether teaching students or painting plein air, she’s driven by a passion to honor and share the beauty of nature. Learn more about her journey balancing teaching and art here.
